Workshop: Sight-Reading for Choral Singers
Four Saturday classes for choral singers at beginner to intermediate skill levels in sight-reading.The sessions will introduce basic music theory and how to use it in your weekly choral practices. Practical exercises and lots of singing will also be a part of this course. Leader for this class is PACEM Executive Director Stephen Sturk.
Good Friday, April 18, 2003 at 12 Noon at St. Paul’s Cathedral:
PACEM presents the fourth annual performance of Franz Joseph Haydn’s Seven Last Words of Our Savior from the Cross as part of the Good Friday meditation at St. Paul’s Cathedral. This extraordinary work is performed (in German) in an arrangement for four vocal soloists and string quartet.

“The Psalms in Worship: An Historical, Theological and Spiritual Seminar”
A two-day seminar with six outstanding scholar/speakers was attended by 70 participants. The Seminar was supported by a grant from the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship (with funds from Lilly Endowment Inc.), as well by a gift from the Edward Bert Cramer Memorial Foundation.

St. Petersburg Quartet in concert
The internationally acclaimed vocal quartet from St. Petersburg presented a program of Russian Orthodox church music (sung in Slavonic) as well as a group of a cappella Russian folk songs. More than 200 people attended. A free-will offering was taken.

PACEM Executive Director Stephen Sturk taught a workshop on “Sight-Reading for Choral Singers” at Trinity Church, 845 Chestnut St. (at Ninth Ave.), Escondido.
Saturday, October 18, 2003 from 9 am to Noon at St. Paul’s Cathedral:
Martin Neary, former organist-choirmaster of Westminster Abbey, led a three-hour workshop session for a group of 40 choral singers, directors and organists. He presented works of John Tavener, as a tribute to the composer’s birthday.

Chamber Music Concert (co-sponsored by the Cathedal music department)
Professor Stephen Armstrong and two students from Oxford, England, present a concert which includes a performance of Rodrigo’s “Guitar Concerto.”
