PACEM began its Cathedral congregation education program by preparing and distributing notes on music and hymns at selected services.
Good Friday, April 21, 2000 at 12 Noon at St. Paul’s Cathedral:
PACEM presented Haydn’s “Seven Last Words” in a version for string quartet and vocal quartet as part of the Cathedral’s Good Friday Meditation.
June–July, 2000
PACEM sponsored a music class for the UPLIFT/Kids at Heart program. Approximately 15 children from the program attended weekly choir rehearsals under the direction of Martin Green at St. Paul’s. A concluding recital was performed for parents and friends.
Saturday, July 8, 2000 from 9 am to 5 pm:
PACEM presented a Renaissance Choral Workshop, with clinicians Virginia Sublett, Ruben Valenzuela and Stephen Sturk. More than 65 singers took part in the full day of activities, which included sessions on early music vocal production, Gregorian chant, and lots of singing. The music for the workshop was Tomás Luis de Victoria’s Missa “Ave Maris Stella,” Francesco Corteccia’s motet Ave Maris Stella, and a double choir motet by Adrian Willaert.
Thursday, September 7, 2000:
First day of Kodály Music Classes for children ages 5 to 8. Teachers Rebecca Cress and Maria Yrjola worked with two classes of children (age 5–6 from 4 to 4:45 pm; and age 7–8 from 5 to 6 pm Material presented was based on the revolutionary music education philosophy of the Hungarian composer Zoltan Kodály. Weekly classes continued on Thursday afternoons through Nov. 16.
Friday, September 8, 2000 at 7:30 pm at St. Paul’s Cathedral:
Lecture: “The Expression of Spirituality in Opera” was presented by Dr. Nicolas Reveles, director of education and outreach for San Diego Opera, in the Great Hall of St. Paul’s Cathedral.

PACEM gave financial support to the residency of The Millennia Consort (organ and brass ensemble) at St. Paul’s Cathedral for the 2000-2001 season.
Sunday, October 1, 2000 at 5 pm at St. Paul’s Cathedral:
Evensong and Concert of music by Stephen Sturk, PACEM Executive Director, on the occasion of his 50th birthday. Sturk was also installed as composer-in-residence of St. Paul’s Cathedral. The PACEM choir (about 55 singers assembled for this event) was accompanied by organ, the Millennia Consort (brass ensemble) and the San Diego Harmony Ringers (handbell choir). The composer conducted a dozen of his anthems before a congregation of about 500.

International concert organist Elisabeth Roloff from Jerusalem presented an all-Bach recital.
Saturday, October 28, 2000 from 1 to 4 pm at All Souls’ Episcopal Church, Pt. Loma:
Elisabeth Roloff presented an Organ Masterclass on Bach chorale compositions.
Friday, November 10, 2000 at 8 pm at St. Paul’s Cathedral:
The San Diego Opera Ensemble presented a benefit concert of “Opera’s Greatest Hits” for PACEM in the Cathedral’s Great Hall
Saturday, November 11, 2000 from 9 am to 12 noon at La Jolla Presbyterian Church:
PACEM sponsored an Organ Workshop on “Hymn- and Service- Playing”. The workshop was led by Dr. Jonathan Biggers, professor of organ at the State University of New York, Binghamton.
