The PACEM choir is comprised of singers from all around San Diego County. In its first four years, the choir was an “ad hoc” ensemble assembled for specific performances. The Choir was first formed by Conductor and Composer Stephen Sturk in 1999 for a performance of Duke Ellington’s Sacred Concert, presented at St. Paul’s Cathedral in celebration of the great jazz composer’s centenary. Milestone performances include Mendelssohn’s oratorio St. Paul in October, 2001, marking the 50th anniversary of the building of St. Paul’s Cathedral, San Diego; and John Rutter’s Requiem performed on September 11, 2002, the first anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the United States. In December 2003 and 2004, the PACEM choir was featured in five performances each year of Handel’s Messiah with the San Diego Chamber Orchestra. These performances were at different venues around San Diego County, including the California Center for the Arts, Escondido. In September 2004, the PACEM Choir began regular rehearsals on Wednesday nights (during the academic year) at St. Paul’s Cathedral. The PACEM Choir is open to ALL singers, without audition. Unless otherwise specified, all rehearsals and performances take place at St. Paul's Cathedral, 2728 Sixth Avenue, San Diego, CA. MAP 2009 Bach Concert Rehearsal Schedule |
