About Us

Headquartered in St. Paul’s Cathedral, by Balboa Park, in downtown San Diego, PACEM’s goal is two-fold: provide a solution
to the quantitative decline in church music and musicians, and excite as many people as possible about the beauties of
excellent church music. The ultimate goals of PACEM include:
- Increasing the number of church musicians in the community
- Increasing the repertoire of church music
- Perpetuating traditional music
- Promoting widespread interest in traditional, modern and experimental church and liturgical music
- Serving as a community resource in the education of church musicians
- Educating the public about the history, musicology and beauties of sacred music
The following outlines a few of the means for attaining these goals. Many are now; some are in the future.
- Workshops for choral directors, soloists, instrumentalists, choir members, etc.
- Short courses on music and singing for children and adults
- Sponsorship of written competitions, for example writing hymns and anthems
- Sponsorship of music competitions, for example composing hymns, anthems and liturgical music
- A lending library of sheet music, scores, and books on music
- A lending library of tapes, videos, CD’s, CD-ROM’s and computer files
- A “Saturday Academy” for children, initially involving classes and courses in music
- A choral school for children in the format of the Anglican choral school
- A source for performances
- A center for the composition of church music
PACEM hopes to become a resource for the Pacific Coast, and beyond, in the
continuing education of church musicians and all lovers of sacred
music. The possibilities for taking advantage of what PACEM has
to offer are practically limitless. PACEM is pleased to listen to
your own goals regarding education in church music and to help you
meet them. For more information or to make a tax-deductible contribution
